Outpatient Rehab Blue Ash, Ohio

Blue Ash, Ohio Opiate Rehab, Drug Rehab, and Detox Resources

Hamilton County has seen a rise in deaths caused by opiate drug overdoses in recent years, much like the rest of the state and the country. Opiates are drugs derived from opium and include medications like morphine, fentanyl, and codeine, as well as the street drug, heroin.

All opiates are addictive because of the way they work on the brain. These medications and drugs actually bind to opioid receptors in the brain that control pleasure and excitement, making it more difficult for the person to feel these things on their own. The result is that the individual begins to rely on drugs to give them a high feeling. Because the high that comes with taking drugs is faster and more pronounced, it is easy to see why individuals crave the feeling of euphoria caused by opiates. Addiction can begin the very first time a person uses, or it can be a more gradual process that happens over weeks or months. Regardless of when it happens, opiate addiction is dangerous to one’s health, leading to physical and emotional ailments, trouble in one’s personal life, financial woes, and legal problems.

Opiate use and overuse can also lead to death. Opiate overdoses have steadily increased in most communities across the country in recent years. Hamilton County reported 403 overdose deaths in 2016 – up 30 percent from the year before, and up to 529 for 2017. Of the 529 people who overdosed and died last year, 373 people died from an opioid overdose. In 2016, 342 people died from an overdose involving opioids, and in 2015 there were 240 people who died from an opioid-related overdose. (Hamilton County Coroner)
